چکیده

This is a prospective analytical study done on 50 patients with perforative peritonitis in Govt Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. The objective of the study was to analyse Mannheim Peritonitis Index, APACHE-II and pPOSSUM by comparing Discriminatory ability, Positive predictive value, Sharpness of prediction and Reliability of prediction. Online calculators were used to calulate risk of mortality and statistical analysis was done with SPSS Version 15 for Windows.MPI score is apt for hospitals in a peripheral setting as it does not overemphasize on intensive monitoring and biochemical values.APACHE-II is a highly accurate score with good reliability at higher scores and moderate sharpness. p-POSSUM is less difficult to calculate than APACHE-II and as if not more reliable. None of the scores here provide a dynamic assessment of the patient as they are a calculated only once at a particular point of time. APACHE-II seems to be the ideal score; still using more than one score may improve the sharpness and reliability of prediction.

APACHE II scoring system is superior in the prediction of the outcome in critically ill patients with perforative peritonitis.

BACKGROUND There are several scoring systems used in the prediction of outcome in critically ill patients. This study was undertaken to evaluate APACHE II, SAPS I, Sepsis score, MOF, TISS-28 and MPI scoring systems in prediction of the outcome in patients with perforative peritonitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS The prospective study of 145 patients of both sexes with perforative peritonitis was per...

Mannheim Peritonitis Index and APACHE II--prediction of outcome in patients with peritonitis.

BACKGROUND Early prognostic evaluation of patients with peritonitis is desirable to select high-risk patients for intensive management and also to provide a reliable objective classification of severity and operative risk. This study attempts to evaluate the use of scoring systems such as Acute Physiological and Chronic Health Evaluation score (APACHE II) and Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) in...

Prognostic Predictive Value of Mannheim Peritonitis Index in Secondary Peritonitis: A Prospective Study

Background: Secondary Peritonitis still remains a significant surgical presentation with high morbidity and mortality. Many scoring systems have been devised to assess prognosis in such patients including APACHE II, POSSUM and Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI). Among these scoring systems, MPI is relatively simple system utilized in European patients with good sensitivity and specificity. Aim: T...

Comparison of APACHE II, P-POSSUM and SAPS II scoring systems in patients underwent planned laparotomies due to secondary peritonitis.

BACKGROUND The first aim of this study was to discuss the factors affecting mortality rate in patients with severe intraabdominal sepsis treated with planned relaparotomy. The second aim was to compare APACHEE II, P-POSSUM and SAPS II scoring systems to allow identification of high-risk patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS A series of 34 patients who had intra-abdominal sepsis and treated with plan...
